The Short Answer
Heat Kerasoy 4130 to 80-85°C to fully melt it. Pour into your containers at 55-65°C.
That's the quick version. But if you've ever had wet spots, sinkholes, or that annoying frosting on your finished candles, the details matter.
Why Temperature Matters More Than You Think
Kerasoy 4130 is a soy-coconut blend designed specifically for container candles. It's formulated to stick to glass - but only if you treat it right.
Pour too hot? The wax contracts as it cools, pulling away from the glass. Hello, wet spots.
Pour too cold? The wax sets before it bonds to the container. Same problem, different cause.
The Process, Step by Step
1. Melting (80-85°C)
Use a double boiler or wax melter. Direct heat is risky - you can scorch the wax and ruin the scent throw.
Stir occasionally. You want every crystal fully melted before moving on. Partly-melted wax causes uneven burning later.
2. Add Fragrance (around 75°C)
Let it cool slightly from melting temperature. Add your fragrance oil and stir gently for 2 minutes.
Kerasoy holds up to 10% fragrance load. Most makers find 8% is the sweet spot - strong scent without sweating.
3. Pouring (55-65°C)
This is where patience pays off. Wait until the wax cools to pouring temperature.
Warm your containers first. Room temperature glass shocks the wax. A few minutes in a low oven (50°C) or near a radiator works.
Pour steadily, not too fast. Leave about 1cm at the top for a second pour if needed.
4. Cooling
Let it cool naturally. No fridges, no fans. Rapid cooling causes those hairline cracks on the surface.
Room temperature, away from drafts. Takes about 4-6 hours for a medium container.
Common Temperature Mistakes
Pouring at melting temperature: The wax is too thin. It'll shrink dramatically and pull away from everything.
Cold containers: The wax sets instantly on contact with cold glass. No adhesion, guaranteed wet spots.
Not stirring fragrance long enough: Pockets of concentrated fragrance. Uneven scent throw.
